HC stays arrest of exBJP gen secy

Nainital: The Uttarakhand high court (HC) on Friday stayed the arrest of former state BJP general secretary Sanjay Kumar, accused of sexual harassment by a woman party worker. Kumar had earlier moved a petition in the HC requesting quashing of the FIR against him.According to Kumar’s counsel, Aditya Singh, Justice N S Dhanik who was hearing the matter, also directed the state to file a reply within four weeks. Kumar was removed from the post of general secretary (organisation) of Uttarakhand BJP in November last year following allegations of sexual exploitation by a woman who worked at the state BJP office.Dehradun police had lodged an FIR against him on January 6 this year under sections 294 (obscene acts and songs), 354 (assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty) and 506 (punishment for criminal intimidation) of Indian Penal Code, 1860..
