State pollution board to exempt lsquogreen companiesrsquo from filing environmental clearance

Dehradun: The Uttarakhand Environment Protection and Pollution Control Board (UEPPCB) on Friday said it would exempt all the ‘green companies’ (who contribute less to pollution) from re-filing the environment clearance.The officials at the state pollution control board said that the Uttarakhand is the first state in the country to provide the facility. Currently, all the companies need to approach pollution control board annually for environment clearance, and with this move the need to take several rounds of offices will end,” said member secretary of the UEPPCB, S.P. Subudhi.The proposal which has reached its final stage is left to get approval from the chairman of UEPPCB, added Subudhi.The companies submit a fee to the board for getting clearance, and through it the board generates revenue worth Rs 3.5 crore. The official added that this is being done to promote business and environment-friendly conditions in the stateThere are around 2,700 companies in the state who are under the green category, followed by 2600 under orange category and around 800 companies in red category. Green industries tag is given to those who contribute less to environment pollution.“We have made this proposal for Uttarakhand considering the need to give business-friendly environment to such industries which are environment-friendly too as it will help our state in safeguard its unique Himalayan environment..
