Doon a fortress ahead of Diwali, PM visit

All security personnel on PM security duty have been directed to report on duty three hours before the arrival of PM Modi at Jolly Grant airport. DEHRADUN: With Diwali falling just a day before the Prime Minister’s proposed visit to Uttarakhand, the usually tight security arrangements in Dehradun have been further strengthened with deployment of extra personnel this year.PM Narendra Modi would be going to Kedarnath in Rudraprayag district on October 20, a day after Diwali. Two SP rank officers, one deputy SP, three inspectors, nine sub-inspectors, 46 constables and head constables and one company of PAC would be deployed in and around the airport. “We have made some route diversions for the convenience of commuters and deployed extra traffic personnel on roads for better traffic management,” he said.ADGP Law and Order Ashok Kumar presided over a meeting at Jolly Grant airport in view of the PM’s proposed visit. He would be landing at Dehradun’s Jolly Grant airport before flying to the Himalayan shrine.Tight security can be witnessed in and around bustling market places in Dehradun such as Paltan Bazaar, Moti Bazaar, Rajpur Road, Connaught place, Dharampur, Premnagar and Chakrata Road.Nivedita Kukreti, SSP Dehradun, said, “We have deployed quick response teams (QRT’s) at select places and policemen in plain clothes are also keeping a tab on suspicious elements.”He added that police have worked really hard to prepare a detailed traffic plan for Diwali..
