Sirsa expressed shock that Parliament had passed the Anand Marriage Amendment Act in 2012 which was duly approved by the President and published in the Gazette of India in June 2012. The act has been implemented in around 14 states, including Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, Himachal Pardesh, Jharkhand, Meghalaya, etc., but the West Bengal Government was totally ignorant about this. Sirsa said not only the state governments in the country implemented the act, but Pakistan was also working to implement provisions of the act for the Sikhs community there.
