NEW DELHI: Delhi’s scorching hot weather continued on Thursday with the maximum temperature eclipsing Wednesday’s season high of 41.6 degrees Celsius to be recorded at 42 degrees Celsius at Safdarjung – three notches above normal for the season.This was also the season’s highest at Palam where the maximum temperature touched 43.9 degrees Celsius. The capital had recorded a maximum of 43.2 degrees Celsius last year in April at Safdarjung. Maximum temperature at Ayanagar was 42.4 degrees Celsius, while Lodhi Road and Ridge recorded 40.4 and 40.6 degrees Celcius respectively.Met officials, however, have forecast respite on Friday with light rain expected across NCR during evening and night time.Officials from the regional Met office said the rain was likely to affect the eastern side of NCR more with some parts only receiving a drizzle, however it may bring down the maximum temperature to 38 degrees Celsius.“East Delhi, Ghaziabad and Noida will be affected more by the rain, but most parts will see light rain or a drizzle. Friday morning should be cloudy and the temperature will not be as high as the last two days,” said Kuldeep Srivastava, scientist at the regional met office.On Thursday, along with the intense heat, the humidity also remained high — oscillating between 26 and 88% in the last 24 hours.The India Meteorological Department (IMD), in its annual summer forecast recently, had said that while temperatures in the months of April, May, June and July are expected to be above normal this year, it is not likely to be as hot as last year..
