We generally give the mother a couple of months with the cubs before they can be displayed to visitors,” said Singh. NEW DELHI: As the country celebrated its 72nd Independence Day, Delhi zoo had an added reason to cheer on Wednesday morning, with the birth of two tiger cubs — 27 years since the zoo last welcomed offsprings from a ‘mixed’ pair. The cubs were the result of mating between a unique couple — three-year-old white tigress Nirbhaya and five-year-old Royal Bengal tiger Karan. Both the cubs look quite healthy, however it will be quite some time before they can be displayed as they need to learn to walk on their own. However, they will be monitored constantly through the next couple of months, with a special diet likely to be provided to them. The white tigress had been feeling uneasy for the last one week and finally delivered two cubs early Wednesday,” said Renu Singh, director, Delhi zoo.Zoo officials said that both the cubs are Royal Bengal tigers and look to be fairly healthy..
