Atal Bihari Vajpayee cremated: Daughter Namita Bhattacharya lights pyre to bid final goodbye

Former Indian Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee breathed his last on Thursday evening at 5:05 PM at AIIMS, breaking the hearts of millions of his admirers.

Atal Bihari Vaypayee’s mortal remains have been consigned to the ashes and his daughter,  Namita Bhattacharya lit the pyre for the mukhagni.

Vajpayee’s mortal remains are brought to Smriti Sthala from his residence and admirers including PM Narendra Modi, Amit Shah, Sumitra Mahajan, Yogi Adityanatha with thousand others flocked to the cremation ground to catch one last glimpse of the tallest politician of Indian politics.

The former PM`s body was kept overnight at the bungalow on Krishna Menon road where he spent the last few years away from public life.

From there, it was taken on the flower-decked gun-carriage to the office of the BJP, the party he helped form in 1980.

The BJP patriarch could never visit the new, sprawling headquarters symbolic of the rise of the party he nurtured for decades.

Atal Bihari Vajpayee died after battling a prolonged illness at the AIIMS on Thursday.

The 93-year-old leader has been accorded a state funeral and the state is in mourning.
