NEW DELHI: Bullets flew near Akshardham temple late Thursday afternoon, throwing the popular tourist spot into chaos, as cops clashed with a gang of robbers who had just looted two businessmen of Rs 22 lakh at gunpoint.The criminals tried to escape by firing at least twice at the cops, who nevertheless managed to nab one of the four men. The cops, from Pandav Nagar police station and the reserve battalion, signalled them to stop but they panicked and fired at the cops.The bullets missed the cops, who managed to pin down one of the robbers along with his weapon and chased the others. Later, the businessmen’s collection agent, who had tipped off the robbers, was also arrested.The shooting sent police in a tizzy and additional personnel were called in to sanitise the area. Nearby units were also alerted about the presence of the robbers, who were found to be involved in a spate of armed robberies in Noida.Aasu told the cops that they had received information about the cash from the businessmen’s cash collection agent.
