Summary:

NEW DELHI: Traffic congestion and the high rate of accidents between Ashram and AIIMS could finally ease as the Public Works Department looks at increasing the road width to accommodate vehicles while allowing safe passage for pedestrians and cyclists. As per the traffic police officers, Ring Road is among the capital’s most accident-prone thoroughfare. To ensure that cars do not encroach into the areas meant for pedestrians or use that space to park their vehicles, there will be a divider to keep the two separate. The other carriageway of the road will have similar dimensions and configuration.PWD admitted that a large number of accidents took place on the stretch due to the poor conditions of the road and the lack of amenities for pedestrians. Moreover, due to the poor condition of the streets, kerbs and street furniture, free movement was virtually impossible. The location of two major hospitals and shopping and coaching hubs on this road means the presence through the day of pedestrians..
