Mobile squads to help NDMC curb littering

NEW DELHI: The next time you are found littering, spitting or encroaching upon public land in New Delhi Municipal Council ( NDMC ) areas, you will be fined heavily on the spot by the civic agency’s mobile squads.The mobile squads comprise officials from paramilitary forces who are currently on deputation with the civic agency. “A few of the members started working last week,” an official said.The squad members will take rounds of the area on e-vehicles. The squads will work all seven days and its members will be responsible for monitoring services and reporting shortcomings to the field staff of the department concerned. “Since these devices will accept debit and credit cards, we will not be required to issue court challans. They will be working in two shifts and will upload shortcomings or loopholes in the services of any department on the NDMC 311 app.“Unlike the enforcement department, which mainly concentrates on encroachment-related issues, the mobile squads will monitor all kinds of municipal services,” said Ramanand Bhagat, financial advisor, NDMC..
