Regularising unauthorised colonies will lead to development challenges

NEW DELHI: The 1,797 unauthorised colonies of Delhi, which comprise of a large section of the urban population, may finally be regularised but the Supreme Court-appointed monitoring committee has opined that it would lead to development challenges. However, the monitoring committee feels that regularising these colonies, comprising disorganized apartments, would lead to development challenges, as many of them lack basic services like running water supply and almost no sewage system. This master plan is a blueprint for urban development, which lays down guidelines for building homes, commercial spaces, schools and industry-specific zones.
