SDMC launches 6 week long drive to fight plastic usage

New Delhi: The South Delhi Municipal Corporation on Wednesday launched the Plastic Waste Shramdan Campaign in all four SDMC Zones under the Swachhata hi Sewa initiative in a bid to encourage care for the environment. Keeping with the initiative, SDMC Commissioner Gyanesh Bharti on Wednesday addressed a meeting where he instructed all heads of departments to make the week-long plastic waste shramdan from October 21, a result-oriented effort. He added that single-use plastic is not only detrimental to the environment but also harmful to the health of citizens. He also asked officers of SDMC to seriously work on enforcing the ban on single-use plastic, adding that they must everyday visit field for two hours to ensure quantitative contribution in the plastic ban.
