Summary:

The existing toilets, which were kept only for Divyangjans, will now be accessible to transgender passengers on a priority basis by Delhi Metro.

.

Taking special care of transgender passengers, Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has taken a commendable step.

DMRC has made separate toilets for transgenders at the metro station for the convenience of transgender passengers.

The existing toilets, which were kept only for Divyangjans, will now be accessible to transgender passengers on a priority basis by Delhi Metro.

For direction information, signboards for `Divyang` and `Transgender` have been installed outside the toilet in two languages.

However, transgender passengers who wish to use gender-based toilets can do so as per their wishes.

Actually, the purpose of this step is to stop gender discrimination and give a safe environment to transgenders.

At present, there are 347 such toilets at the Delhi Metro station, apart from the regular toilets.

Let us tell you that under Section 22 of the Transgender Persons Act, 2019, it is mandatory to have adequate facilities for transgenders in all public buildings including public toilet facilities.

Know that the network of Delhi Metro is spread over 390 km, in which there are 285 stations.

This metro network is in Delhi, Noida and Gurgaon.
