New Delhi, Jan 24 (PTI) Asserting that arrangements have been made for "absolutely Covid safe" assembly polls in five states, Chief Election Commissioner Sushil Chandra on Monday appealed to voters in these states to exercise their democratic right enthusiastically.
In his message on the eve of the 12th National Voters" Day, he also said the presence of voters at polling stations strengthens democracy.
The Election Commission came into being on January 25, 1950, a day before India became a republic.
For the past 12 years now, January 25 is celebrated as National Voters" Day.
Chandra said that holding elections in the past two years amid the coronavirus pandemic had been "extremely challenging".
The Commission, while holding polls, ensured that the vote and the voters were protected.
