Minister Imran Hussain plants saplings under Delhi govt"s "Van Mahotsav Pakhwara"

New Delhi, Jul 20 (PTI) Delhi Food and Supply Minister Imran Hussain on Wednesday planted saplings in the Kamala Nehru Ridge area as part of the city government"s “Van Mahotsav Pakhwara”, an official statement said here.

Under this drive, the Delhi government has set a target to plant over 35 lakh saplings in the city to effectively help in curbing pollution.

Hussain also appealed to people to plant at least one sapling to help increase the green cover of the city.

"The Kejriwal government wants to eliminate the invasive keekar species and plant medicinal plants in place of it.

For this purpose, the Delhi government has been distributing free medicinal plants to citizens through 14 government-run nurseries," the minister said in the statement.

Medicinal plants being distributed by the government include amla, guava, arjun, curry leaves, giloy, jamun, neem, lemon, drumstick, basil and belpatra among others.

During the event, Hussain urged the residents of the city to actively participate in the initiative.
