Montenegro consulate says no water supply for 2 days; DJB refutes

Delhi | Friday | 5th August, 2022

Summary:

New Delhi, Aug 5 (PTI) The consulate of Montenegro on Friday complained to Delhi Lieutenant Governor V K Saxena that it has not been receiving water supply for two days, prompting the L-G to direct the chief secretary to resolve the issue immediately.

The Delhi Jal Board (DJB), however, said no disruption in water supply has been observed in GK-I where the consulate is located.

Consulate General of Montenegro to India Dr Janice Darbari wrote to Saxena, informing him that the consulate did not get water supply for two days and the DJB did not provide any tanker either despite requests.

Sources in the L-G"s office said Saxena expressed concern over the non-availability of drinking water and tankers; supply of dirty water at low pressure and recurrent sewage management problems at various diplomatic missions in the capital.

The L-G directed the chief secretary to resolve the issue immediately and advised Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal to address such matters that affect the image of the country.

The L-G office has been receiving complaints and requests from diplomatic missions and residencies outside the Diplomatic Enclave which have been facing water supply and sewage back flow issues for long, the sources said.

The DJB, in a statement, said water supply in the area where the consulate general"s residence is located is normal and no disruption has been observed in the recent past.

"Water supply in the area is available at sufficient pressure and no complaint of dirty water has been received recently," it said.

The utility said the junior engineer in the area received a call from the consulate at 19:45 hrs on August 4.

The caller requested water through a tanker.

The same was delivered on Friday morning.

The JE concerned and field staff also told the consulate staff that water supply will be checked during supply hours on Saturday, it said.
