JNU administration cancels permission for ‘nationalism lecture’

The JNU administration refused to grant permission for the “cultural evening and lecture on nationalism” on the grounds that it may disturb “peace and harmony” on the first anniversary of the incident. The ABVP, however, has vowed to still go ahead with the programme after speaking to the administration and explaining their stand. None of the groups that used to organise events on February 9 on the anniversary of the hanging of Afzal Guru every year have come up with any plans for this year. “In the interest of peace and harmony on a crucial day, the program may be postponed,” said Rector-I Chintamani Mahapatra, in response to the application by ABVP’s Saurabh Sharma, who had raised objections to the Afzal Guru event last year..
