Pranab Mukherjee receives last Guard of Honour at Rashtrapati Bhavan

Ram Nath Kovind today took oath as the 14th President of India and emphasized that it is time to take India to great heights.

The swearing-in ceremony took place in Parliament House. Before leaving for Rashtrapati Bhavan for the sworn-in ceremony of President Ram Nath Kovind, Pranab Mukherjee receives last Gard of Honour.

As the President of India, Pranab Mukherjee addressed the nation in his last speech on 24th July, he said that the "soul of India resides in pluralism and tolerance." He thanked the citizens for their trust and confidence in him.

"For the past fifty years of my public life my sacred text has been the Constitution of India.

My temple has been the Parliament of India and my passion has been the service of the people of India," the 81-year-old leader said.

Ending his speech, he added that tomorrow when he speaks to the people, it will be as any other citizen of the country.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi also lauded the President saying, "Under President Pranab Mukherjee, Rashtrapati Bhavan became a `Lok Bhavan`." Pranab Mukherjee`s term end with Ram Nath Kovind taking oath as the 14th President of India.

13th President of India- Pranab Mukherjee (2012 - 2017)

The outgoing President Pranab Mukherjee, who served as the 13th President of India, will demit office on July 25.

Before entering into politics, Mukherjee worked as a lecturer and journalist.

Mukherjee is the only President who served all the major portfolios as the Centre - Foreign, Defence, Commerce and Finance - at different times in his political career.
