HC slaps Rs 10,000 cost on Haryana DGP for not deciding on compensation

CHANDIGARH: Upset with the failure of Haryana director general of police (DGP) in determining the compensation in a custodial death case even after three years, the Punjab and Haryana high court has imposed Rs 10,000 cost on him. Police, however, had claimed that the victim died after hanging himself from a window in the toilet of police station.The petitioner had informed the HC that his brother was taken into custody by the police without any FIR against him. He also questioned the police’s suicide theory.
