Eight schools fail to fill EWS seats, get notice

GHAZIABAD: The district administration has issued notices to eight private schools for allegedly failing to fill 25% of their seats for children from the economically weaker sections and other disadvantaged groups.The administration has asked the schools to fill the seats within four days, failing which it will recommend cancellation of their affiliations. We have given them four days to comply, failing which recommendations will be made to cancel their affiliations.” “They were asked to explain their positions but they failed to come up with satisfactory replies. This forced us to issue notices to them. Under the Right to Education (RTE) Act, 2009, private schools need to reserve 25% of their seats for students from the economically weaker sections.“On Friday, we had called a meeting of representatives of eight schools after they were found to have violated the RTE Act clause under which it is mandatory to admit children from EWS and other disadvantaged groups,” said Himanshu Gautam, city magistrate..
