Officials in Noida said there was initial enthusiasm among residents on the first two days of the tika utsav, but turnouts began coming down from Tuesday onwards.

“Also, since navratri began on Tuesday, a majority of people chose to remain indoors for the rituals,” said a source in the health department.

Asked about the low turnout, Ghaziabad’s chief medical officer, NK Gupta, said, “Since most of our manpower is involved in Covid duty, it could be the reason why we fell short of the target.” In Noida, 9,170 people took the jabs on Wednesday.
