Railways permits GDA to construct part of elevated road over Vasundhara rail line

GHAZIABAD: The 10.3 km UP Gate-Rajnagar Extension elevated road after missing out on two deadline is finally on track. The Ghaziabad Development Authority (GDA), following hectic parleys with railways, has sought its permission for constructing a portion of elevated road that is to pass from over Vasundhara rail line . In fact, last year NGT had briefly stayed work on a portion of elevated road on the ground that few pillars of elevated road was passing through 'Arthala bird sanctuary' in violation of environmental laws.Being built at a cost of Rs 1248 crore, the six-lane elevated road is touted as the country's longest elevated road to be built on single pier. As per understanding, the railways will give a five-hour window from September 27 to GDA for about a month to carry out construction work on the said section of elevated road, which is otherwise 85 per cent complete. "The commissioner of railway safety has given a go ahead for construction of a portion of elevated road that is to pass from over rail line in Vasundhara and as per understating will be given a five-hour window from September 27 for about a month to wrap up the work on the said section," said GDA vice-chairperson Kanchan Verma..
