Surla VP to tender mass resignation in support of farmers

A meeting convened with Bicholim deputy collector Pradeep Naik did not yield any result.The panchayat body has now decided to rally behind the farmers until the matter is fully resolved, said Surla sarpanch Bhola Khodginkar. Around 100 villagers, including farmers, recently held a demonstration before the office of the deputy collector, Bicholim, in protest against lackadaisical attitude of the mining company to compensate farmers against losses they suffered after their paddy farms were destroyed due to mining silt. Bicholim: The Surla village panchayat in the Bicholim taluka, has resolved to tender a mass resignation in protest of the alleged negligent attitude of a mining company towards the compensation of farmers in the village.The panchayat body has also called for a special gram sabha on Sunday to discuss this issue..
