PANAJI: The National Students’ Union of India (NSUI) on Friday expressed concern over the seizure of a huge consignment of the banned party drug, ketamine, which was manufactured illegally at a factory in Pissurlem. Party member Sunil Signapurkar, who was also present, alleged that the factory at Pissurlem from where ketamine was seized, had the blessings of the BJP government. “Each college should also be equipped with a rehabilitation cell to help students who are addicted to narcotics.”In a separate press conference, the Mapusa unit of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) demanded that the BJP government put an end to drug consumption among the student community. Its statement comes in the wake of the rising number of such cases, especially in the Ponda taluka.“BJP and Congress and two sides of the same coin, as both have failed to put an end to the menace in the state,” AAP-Mapusa chief, Pradeep Gadi Amonkar, said. It also said various drugs were easily available in Goa’s educational institutions and that the state government had to take steps to crack down on the trade and rehabilitate addicts.“It is a known fact that drugs are widely available in schools and colleges, but this is completely ignored by everyone,” NSUI member Simran Malkarnekar, said. The student body’s members recently met Goa Police officials to draw their attention to the modus operandi of drug traffickers.“There should be an anti-narcotics cell in every college to check if students are using drugs,” NSUI president Ahraz Mulla, said..
