Monsoon picks up pace over weekend

The India meteorological department (IMD), Panaji has forecast heavy rainfall in isolated places in Goa till Wednesday. PANAJI: The rainfall activity has resumed on the weekend, as most parts of the state witnessed moderate rainfall. Pernem recorded 39.4mm during the last 24 hours till Sunday morning, while Old Goa received 38.3mm, Quepem 32.0mm, Canacona 29.4mm, Sanguem 21.2mm, Dabolim 20.4mm, Mormugao 18.8mm and Panaji 11.7.Figures of rainfall for Valpoi and Margao had not been received.The state average rainfall during the last 24 hours was 19mm. The highest rainfall after the onset of the monsoon, which hit the state only a date late on June 7, was 62mm on June 8, 91mm on June 9 and 98mm on June 10.The seasonal total for the state reached 476.0mm on Sunday, as against the normal of 427.3mm and the surplus is 11%.While heavy rainfall is likely in isolated places, most centres will receive a few spells of rain during the next few days..
