Remembrance week for victims of road accidents

PANAJI: In a bid to spread road safety awareness among the public and to commemorate victims of road accidents , the Goa consumer action network ( GOACAN ) is observing Goa Remembrance Week for Road Traffic Victims from November 12 to 18.The awareness drive will focus on the increasing number of deaths and grievous injuries due to road accidents in Goa. GOACAN, through its road safety and traffic management campaign in a special effort this year, is observing the Goa Remembrance Week,” GOACAN stated.During this week GOACAN will reach out to various government departments and corporations with the message of road safety. Volunteers of consumer forums and members of village panchayats and road safety and traffic management committees of municipal councils will share messages of road safety in their localities. As part of the safety week, GOACAN will also popularize the Road Safety Patrol (RSP) and traffic warden schemes of Goa traffic police and the Goa state interim compensation to road accident victims, 2015 scheme which is implemented by the directorate of transport. The week long drive will conclude with the theme, “Roads have stories” on November 18, the World Day of Remembrance.According to the road accidents survey, 2017, by the ministry of road transport and highways (MoRTH), there were a total of 3,917 accidents in Goa in 2017 which resulted in 306 deaths..
