‘Rape accused not cooperating’

POINGUINIM: Canacona police on Saturday said the man, who has been remanded in police custody for 12 days on the charges of raping a woman from the UK, was not cooperating in the investigation.Police said the accused, Ramachandrappa Chinna Yellappa , 30, from Tamil Nadu, was a history-sheeter.Yellappa attacked the woman when she was returning to her room from Canacona railway station with her luggage. He then fled with the three bags, cash, mobile, passport, debit cards and other valuables, police said.Though police have recovered a part of the stolen money, they are yet to find the passport of the woman.Canacona police inspector Rajendra Prabhudesai, said investigation has so far revealed that the accused had rented a bike from Vasco and was staying with a friend at a hotel near the Margao railway station.The duo was living in Goa for a long time at a rented room at Cortalim..
