Summary:

COLVA: Six more dead Olive Ridley turtles were spotted along two stretches of the coastline from Mormugao to Salcete , taking the tally of carcasses of flippered visitors found during the last four to five days to 18.On a beach stretch between Zalor in Carmona and Fatrade in Varca, a family was shocked to see as many as three carcasses, within a distance of 50 metres from each other.Range forest officer Siddesh Gaude said he received calls from Dristhi Marine personnel regarding dead turtles at Majorda and Betalbatim and he was on his way to take possession of carcasses. One more dead turtle was also found below the beach near Japanese garden in Mormugao.Wild life activists worried over high mortality of marine species suspect that increase in the number of vessels in the foreshore area, especially water sports and other vessels, may be one of the major factors for it.But hardly any post mortem examinations are done to ascertain the causes, as most often, the carcasses are highly decayed..
