Summary:

A case was also filed in high court. Panaji: Parts of Mapusa, Parra, Calangute and Arpora received intermittent power supply on Friday as a result of damage caused to an incoming cable supplying electricity from Mapusa to Nagoa substation.Power department staff were on the site working to restore the supply, which is expected to be complete by Saturday morning. Many residents in areas like Baga didn't have power supply through the day since 6.30am.Calangute Sarpanch Shawn Martins in his Facebook post stated that the entire Nagao substation was without power since Friday morning. The problem occurred due to a fault at the main line from Mapusa to Nagoa at 6.30am. If we were allowed to lay the second circuit, people wouldn’t be put to inconvenience,” a department official said. The department laid 3.5 kms of a parallel circuit between Nagoa and Mapusa, but in January they were stopped by around 50 farmers at Almeida Vaddo in Parra when they objected to the work of a parallel overhead circuit through their fields. The problem was detected at 4.30 pm.Martins said the assistant engineer has told them that the main cable consists of three major cables, of which two are severely damaged and need to be replaced. The cable will be brought from Margao, and will require a day to replace the damaged cables, and hence some areas will not have electricity supply on Friday night, he said.Electricity department officials said that they had to resort to load restriction by alternating power supply to these areas.“There was no other alternate circuit and we had no other option as we only have one circuit running from Nagoa substation to Mapusa..
