Business complexes draw MCG ire for not segregating waste

MCG recently hired Ecogreen to set up a waste-to-energy plant at Bandhwari. Gurgaon: MCG has issued a notice to all bulk waste generators, such as hospitals, hotels and other commercial complexes , for violation of the solid waste management rules and not segregating waste at source.According to the MCG officials, any building or establishment which generates over 100kg waste per day is considered as a waste bulk generator and is responsible for ensuring segregation of waste at source before handing it over to any government agency for further processing. “Under the solid waste management rules, if any bulk waste generator is found handing over unsegregated garbage to an authorised waste collector, user charges at twice the rate would be applicable,” read the notice.The notice, however, clarified that RWAs or condominiums which carry out segregation of waste at source or decentralised waste composting and send the dry waste to designated waste handling sites will be exempted from user charges.
