Rs 1,300 crore power bills pending in Jind district

JIND: District unit of Haryana power discom Dakshin Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam (DHBVN) has the highest debt of Rs 1,300 crore in the state.Giving these details here on Thursday, superintendent engineer S K Singh said power consumers had pending electricity bills totalling Rs 1,300 crore in the district since 1992. People of Jind district did not show interest in paying bills due to socio-political factors as political parties promised people to waive their power bills and this led to an increase in the number of defaulters in the district. Different governments had launched schemes many times for giving certain relaxations in power bills to consumers, but all these contained terms and conditions due to which consumers failed to pay bills regularly.
