Rs 3,400cr infra boost for Mewat, canal project to get Rs 700cr

MEWAT: In a major boost to infrastructure in Mewat , the state government is set to invest Rs 3,427 crore in the district. Mewat has a population of 13 lakh, though a majority of the people, especially women, are uneducated. As a result, very few of them have regular jobs, and the remaining are involved in agriculture and other traditional occupations.The chief minister, on a foundation stone laying spree, announced Rs 700 crore for the Mewat feeder canal project. On Saturday, chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar announced a water pipeline project with a budget of Rs 1,185 crore, and another Rs 2,242 crore for other development work.The investments are a step by the government to uplift the otherwise “backward” district. The CM also inaugurated a district panchayat resource centre in Salaheri, built at a cost of Rs 2 crore.He laid foundation stones of the road between Tauru-Bhogipur and Silkho, to be built at a cost of Rs 8.36 crore, and a Bal Bhavan each in Ferozepur-Jhirka (Rs 2.33 crore) and Nuh (Rs 2.21 crore).He will also lay foundation stones for schools in Tauru, Nuh, Nagina, Ferozepur-Jhirka, Punhana Madhi and Khanpur Ghati, for which Rs 11.57 crore has been allotted.Foundation stones were also laid for block development offices in Punhana (Rs 1.92 crore), Pingawa (Rs 1.98 crore), Nagina (Rs 1.92 crore), Indri (Rs 2.2 crore) and Nuh (Rs 1.92 crore), and a 33kV substation in Ujina, which is to cost Rs 1.65 crore..
