KAITHAL: Police here have booked 24 persons on the charge of cheating and forgery for allegedly submitting fake bills to claim money for treatment of diseases under the chief minister’s relief fund.The action came after Kaithal chief medical officer (CMO) Dr Surender Nain investigated into claims worth Rs 92.95 lakh made by the 24 accused. Dr Nain said when they contacted the authorities of that hospital, they denied having treated such patients.Following this, the CMO said a report was sent to DC office, and a formal complaint was lodged with Kaithal police. Kaithal superintendent of police (SP) Astha Modi said a case had been registered under sections 420 (fraud), 467 (forgery of valuable security), 468 (forgery for purpose of cheating), and 120B (punishment of criminal conspiracy) of the Indian Penal Code Dr Nain said the Kaithal deputy commissioner (DC) had asked the health department to verify the claims of those seeking money for treatment of cancer, and kidney and heart diseases under the CM relief fund.He said when the health department investigated, the documents of the claimants were found to be fake..
