Summary:

YAMUNANAGAR: Even as there are 12 candidates in the fray for the mayor’s post in Yamunanagar-Jagadhri municipal corporation (MC), it will be a four-cornered fight among BJP’s Madan Chauhan, INLD-BSP alliance’s Sandeep Kumar Goyal, Congress-backed independent Rakesh Sharma Kaka and Sushil Jain of Loktantra Suraksha Manch.Meanwhile, there is only one women contender for the mayor’s post. The residents of the unapproved colonies lack basic facilities, including water supply, sanitation, undeveloped streets, roads and drainages.Though roads had been in a shambles for the four years, four BJP MLAs from Yamunanagar Radaur and Sadhaura are now working to get streets and roads repaired in the MC areas to impress the voters. While for 22 posts of councillors in the MC, equal number of women and men (63) are in the fray.In a major setback for the INLD-BSP combine, BSP’s two-time former MLA Akram Khan has announced his support for the Congress-backed candidate Rakesh Sharma Kaka. He said, “Sharma is my favourite candidate, so I am supporting him.”Only two candidates — BJP’s Madan Chauhan and Sandeep Kumar Goyal of INLD-BSP alliance — are contesting on party symbols, while others are fighting as independents. Some of their main agendas included sanitation, streets, roads, drainages, sewage, water and regularization of unapproved colonies. The main problems in the approved areas include lack of sanitation and poor condition of streets..
