Gurgaon | Thursday | 7th February, 2019

Summary:

Based on traffic density, it will automatically adjust the timings of the signals. GURUGRAM: The MCG is installing four ‘smart’ traffic lights between Huda City Centre and Subhash Chowk in association with a Japanese firm in an attempt to decongest traffic at the stretch. These traffic lights will operate on a ‘Real-Time Intelligent System’, which will observe traffic with the help of sensors and cameras installed at the junction or on the traffic signal itself. The corporation has selected four traffic junctions between Huda City Centre and Subhash Chowk on which the system will be installed as a pilot project. While the Japanese firm will provide the equipment and the technology, MCG will carry out the civil works. TOI had earlier reported that for this purpose, the department is planning to develop a software based on using Google Maps to calculate traffic queues at an intersection and predict the exact signal cycle according to shifting real-time needs. At present, the smart traffic lights have already been installed at the four junctions and remaining work is underway.“If the pilot project is successful, we will implement the system in other parts of the city as well,” said MCG commissioner Yashpal Yadav. The smart traffic lights will be inaugurated by Union minister and local MP Rao Inderjit Singh on February 12.Gurugram traffic police has also been planning to go hi-tech to deal with long vehicle queues at major traffic junctions in the city..
