Summary:

Gurgaon: The MCG has decided to establish ‘model wards’ for solid waste management after heavy criticism from the National Green Tribunal (NGT) over “inefficient waste management” in the city. They will be then integrated into the system. In order to make these wards ‘model wards’, at least five composting units and a material recovery facility will be set up in each of the four wards. While composting units will take care of biodegradable waste, recovery facilities will be used for the collection of other recyclable waste, such as metal, plastic or paper. He added that the survey will also identify unauthorised ragpickers, if any, in these wards. After NGT directed the corporation to chalk up an action plan on solid waste management, MCG commissioner Yashpal Yadav had told TOI that they plan to cut down the volume of waste going to Bandhwari by 50% in coming months..
