Haryana governer presses for recognition of sign language

He had requested the Governor, who is also President of Haryana Welfare Society for Persons with Speech & Hearing Impairment , to provide funds for improvement in infrastructure especially for expansion of hostel facility. He said that it has set an example not only in the state but also in the country. The governor also went round the exhibition put up by the Inmates of the center and was quite impressed by the exhibits.Expressing his views on the occasion, Prof Kaptan Singh Solanki observed that the center is making the 'disabled' able by providing various facilities. GURUGRAM: Haryana governor Prof Kaptan Singh Solanki today felt that the 'sign language' should be given recognition in Haryana also and promised to make efforts for this.Prof Kaptan Singh Solanki was speaking in a function organized in 'Center for Welfare of Speech and Hearing Impaired' at Gurugram today, where he inaugurated a 3-D Lab and a Computerised Embroidery Workshop besides launching the Center's website.With starting of these two new courses, now the Center will be imparting training in 8 vocational courses. This center was set up in 1971 with only 3 students and now it has 350 students from Haryana and other neighbouring states.The issue of giving recognition to 'sign language' used by the speech and hearing impaired persons was raised from the dais by saying that such a step has already been taken by the Madhya Pradesh government.After getting recognition, the sign language can be taught as a subject in schools and colleges like other languages..
