Upkeep drives trigger more power cuts

GURUGRAM: Power disruptions on account of maintenance operations are on the rise in Gurgaon. Just days after a power shutdown irked residents of Sector 23A, the discom on Wednesday imposed another one along the 66/11 kV line beginning from the 220kV substation in Sector 52.The shutdown, officials said, disrupted power supply of seven feeders across the city, including ones in sectors 44, 45, 46 and Wazirabad Residents alleged the shutdown was longer than what officials had announced a day earlier. They also said that while the duration mentioned on the Urja Mitra app was one hour, the cuts lasted more than that in reality.Residents said cuts have seen an unusual spike in recent weeks, even though during the winter season the demand is cut down to just 500 MW, as against 1600 MW in summers.Apparently, officials are upping the maintenance of the entire power infrastructure in Gurgaon , due to which disruptions have become more routine..
