One more dead as Assam floods worsen

Charaideo remained the worst affected. GUWAHATI: The flood situation in the state worsened after a fresh spell of rain lashed several parts of the state in the last 24 hours. Total 122 persons were evacuated by the state fire and emergency services and the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF). A report issued by the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA), said the total number of people affected in the current wave of floods went up to 67,976 on Friday from 50,334 on Thursday.With one more death reported from the Mahmora revenue circle in Charaideo district in upper Assam in the last 24 hours, the death toll increased to 32. A total of 10 revenue circles in six flood-hit districts-Lakhimpur, Jorhat, Charaideo, Cachar, Karimganj and Hailakandi-are still struggling to remain afloat as the threat of rain looms large over the next couple of days..
