Flood situation improves but heavy rain on radar

As on Sunday, area of cropland under water has come down to 901 hectare from 1,101.18 hectare on Saturday. Lakhimpur is the worst hit, with over 31,000 people reeling in floods, followed by 28,807 in Charaideo. GUWAHATI: The flood situation in Assam showed further sign of improvement with the affected population coming down to 63,315 on Sunday across five districts - Lakhimpur, Jorhat, Sivasagar, Charaideo and Karimganj.On Saturday, there were 67,449 people affected by the deluge in these districts. According to Assam State Disaster Management Authority, Desang river in Sivasagar, Dhansiri river in Golaghat and Jia Bharali river in Sonitpur district are still flowing above danger level since Saturday.With the water level rising and the Met office forecasting heavy rainfall, officials said the prospect of increase in flood intensity in the coming days looms large..
