COBSE suggests more marks to practical in degree, diploma exams

GUWAHATI: The Council of Boards of School Education in India (COBSE) has proposed that the weightage for practical needs to be increased by up to 70% in degree and diploma courses to cater to market needs.Earlier, 38 education boards had said since it is difficult to alter the 70:30 ratio of allotting marks for theory and practical in the school board exams, the trend needs to be reversed in diploma and degree courses having practicals for professional needs.“There are so many children holding diplomas and degrees in the country. He added that introducing new courses and revamping the existing syllabus may go a long way in giving more applied knowledge to students.Secretary of the Assam Higher Secondary Education Council (AHSEC), Kamal Jyoti Gogoi, said it was resolved by the board representatives that in case of sensitive exam centres, efforts should be made to arrange videography to ensure fair conduct of examinations.
