BJP surges ahead in Assam panchayat polls

Out of the 192 anchalik panchayat member seats, BJP has 111 seats, Congress won 46, AGP won 16 and AIUDF won seven. One of these seats has gone to Independents.Out of the 1,672 gaon panchayat member seats, BJP has won 824, followed by Congress (443), AGP (152) and AIUDF (33). Despite having a considerable presence in lower Assam and the Barak valley districts, the All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) has had a dismal showing in the rural polls.State election commissioner HN Bora said results have been declared for 125 gaon panchayat president seats, 192 anchalik panchayat member seats and 1,672 gaon panchayat member seats.
