DIBRUGARH: Students of several colleges in chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal’s hometown, Dibrugarh , took to the streets on Thursday as protests against the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016, continued across Upper Assam Displaying banners and placards, the students marched along the Keshab Chandra Gogoi Road (College Road) before converging on Thana Chariali. Demanding scrapping of the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016, they blocked the busy town square for over an hour and raised slogans against the BJP government. The protest was called off after senior police and district adminsitration officials intervened.On Wednesday, students of Dibrugarh University had launched an indefinite boycott of classes in protest against the bill. The protesters burnt tyres on the road amid continuous slogan shouting against the government for supporting the controversial bill. Few enraged students also tried to storm the Tinsukia police station by crossing the barricades but were stopped at the gate..
