Assam: Aasu, KMSS slam BJP-AGP alliance

Guwahati | Saturday | 16th March, 2019

Summary:

It is sad to see that AGP, which is considered to be one of the foremost parties of Assam, is bowing down to BJP today. After AGP had walked out of the alliance with BJP over opposing stands on the bill, no one expected them to come back. The people of Assam, who fought for long to stop the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, which would have paved the way for citizenship to be granted to Bangladeshi migrants, feel betrayed today. GUWAHATI: All Assam Students' Union (Aasu) and peasants' body, Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti (KMSS) - two organizations that had spearheaded protests in Assam against the contentious Citizenship (Amendment) Bill - have expressed their unhappiness over Asom Gana Parishad's ( AGP ) decision to renew its ties with the BJP "AGP will have to answer before the people of Assam why it decided to enter into an alliance with BJP once again. People will never vote for this unholy nexus.".
