Staff ReporterGUWAHATI: Are these national highways or death traps? This is against 26 per cent accidents each in State highways and other roads in the State during the period. The accusing finger for such a high percentage of road accidents on national highways in the State will certainly point at their improper maintenance. What is startling is that as many as 1,427 road accidents occurred on national highways in 2016 against 567 on state highways and 578 on other roads in the State in 2016, as many as 1,464 road accidents on national highways against 582 accidents on state highways and 737 accidents on other roads in the State in 2017, and 1,623 road accidents on national highways against 616 on state highways and 727 on other roads in the State in 2018.
