Guwahati: NEDA Convener Himanta Biswa Sarma on Monday informed that the Union Home Minister Amit Shah in the sidelines of Northeast Democratic Alliance's (NEDA) 4th conclave assured all the Chief Ministers of the Northeast that proposed Citizenship Amendment Bill, 2016 will have a cutoff date of 31st December 2014. CM Sangma also enquired if the proposed CAB will override Meghalaya Residents Safety and Security Act. To which, Union Home Minister informed that specific provisions would be included in the proposed Amendment Bill itself. All the current laws and regulations and state laws enacted for protecting the cultural, linguistics and other rights of Northeastern region will not get diluted by the proposed CAB, says Amit Shah.
