Indus Waters Treaty vessels carry stranded passengers of Majuli during lockdown

GUWAHATI: To avoid the inconvenience faced by stranded people of Majuli during the lockdown period, Indus Waters Treaty (IWT) has resumed ferry service from on April 25 and since then, 258 passengers from Majuli to Neamatighat and 724 passengers from Neamatighat to Majuli have been transported by IWT vessels till today.This special and free ferry service will continue till 2nd of May, 2020. Due to the national lockdown arising out of COVID-19 pandemic, people of Majuli were left stranded facing acute problem and inconvenience. Transport Minister Chandra Mohan Patowary directed the officials of the department to start special free ferry service, which is regarded as the lifeline for the people of Majuli. have been strictly followed while transporting passengers in the IWT vessels.
