Principal Chief Conservator of Forests (Wildlife) Amit Sahai told PTI that the incident occurred due to lightning strikes on the hills in the Kundoli forest area of ​​Kathiatoli range on Wednesday night.

He said, "This is a remote area and our team was able to reach there on Thursday afternoon.

Carcasses of elephants were found in two herds.

14 carcasses of elephants were found on top of the hill while four bodies were found in the lower part of the hill.

Electrocution is believed to be another possible reason for this shocking incident, the exact reason would be known only after a post-mortem.

Sahay said that preliminary investigation has revealed that the elephants died due to lightning strikes on Wednesday night, but only after the final examination on Friday, the real cause will be known.
