Assam extends Covid lockdown for 7 days with fresh guidelines, curbs eased in Kamrup district

The Assam government on Tuesday has extended the lockdown in the state till June 22 after reviewing the Covid-19 situation in the state.

The government also extended the suspension of inter-district movement of people and vehicles.

The order has been issued by the Assam State Disaster Management Authority and it has been signed by Chief Secretary Jishnu Barua.

According to the order, the state has been divided into three categories based on the pandemic situation.

Accordingly, the curfew period has been relaxed by one hour in the Kamrup Metropolitan Region, which mainly comprises the city of Guwahati.

It will start from 2 pm and will continue till 5 am the next day.

`Urban areas with a positivity rate of 5% and above and rural areas with a positivity rate of 10% and above will be declared containment zones, only allowing for essential service`, Assam health minister Keshab Mahanta informed.

On the other hand, South Salmara, Majuli, Bongaigaon, Chirang, Udalguri, West Karbi Anglong, Dima Hasao and Charaideo districts have fewer than 400 positive cases in the last 10 days, so restrictions have been eased here and movement of persons has been allowed from 5 am to 5 pm.
