Six bridges submerge in Chikkodi as rain increases

Summary:

Belagavi: Vehicular movement on six low-lying bridge cum barrages in Chikkodi taluk has been hampered with water overflowing on to the bridges. To manage the inflow of water, 53,100 cusecs water is being let out from the Hipparagi Dam. Due to increased water levels of rivers, water is gushing into standing crops and farmers are engaged in shifting pump sets from the river bank to safer places. Due to incessant rainfall in Konkan region for the past four days, river Krishna and its tributaries Vedganga and Doodhganga are flowing in full spate. The Kallol- Yadur bridge across the Krishna, Karadaga- Bhoj and Malikawad- Dattawad bridges across Vedaganga and Bhojwadi Kunnur, Akkol- Sidnal and Jatrat- Bhivashi bridges across Doodhganga river have submerged.The police department has deployed personnel on both sides of the submerged bridges to prevent vehicles from entering the water..
